Vierneisel’s New Painting at CAVA Exhibit

Opening Exhibit “Forgotten Illinois”

Join me for wine and refreshments at this exhibit sponsored jointly by the Chicago Alliance of Visual Artists (CAVA) and the North Shore Art League (NSAL) on Thursday, July 18th from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

Tallgrass Prairie

I created “Tallgrass Prairie” in response to a call for art work that reflects historic Illinois incidents, individuals, or influences. This oil painting imagines what the Illinois landscape once looked like before settlers tilled the soil and turned the prairie into rich farmland:  vast clouds, a glimpse of a monarch butterfly and snake hidden among the prairie wildflowers and the tall bluestem grasses that seem to reach to the sky.

The show runs from Thursday, July 18 through August 9, 2019 at the North Shore Art League’s second floor gallery in the Winnetka Community House.  Gallery hours:  8 am – 9 pm daily; closed on Holidays.

Location

620 Lincoln Avenue, Second Floor

Winnetka, IL 60093

The Sandia Mountains from the Bosque

Watercolor on Arches Paper

Mary’s View of Coulagh Bay

The first is from a painting trip to Corrales, New Mexico; it’s a small watercolor painted along the banks of Rio Grande titled “The Sandia Mountains from the Bosque.”

The second is from a painting trip to Ireland’s Beara Peninsula and the town of Eyeries last year.  Our group met a remarkable older woman spiritualist, Mary Maddison, who let us wander her property along Coulagh Bay.   This watercolor is titled “Mary’s View of Coulagh Bay.”

CAVA’s 30th Anniversary Gala and Vierneisel’s Recent Award

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FOR MY PAINTING “ALEXANDER’S BRIDGE”

The second painting in my new series of work based on the novels of Willa Cather, “Alexander’s Bridge” was inspired by her first novel of the same name.  I was delighted that the judges at CAVA’s “Later Impressions” show at the Leslie Wolfe Gallery selected it for an award of excellence.
